FAQs
The arousal cream is a compounded topical formulation that increases blood flow and sensitivity to the applied area through three complementary mechanisms. Together, these three ingredients work through the same physiological pathway that underlies natural arousal: increased blood flow, tissue engorgement, lubrication, and heightened sensation. Because this is a compounded formulation, it is not FDA-approved as a combined product, but each ingredient has an established pharmacological basis for supporting vascular response.
The arousal cream contains no hormones whatsoever> It does not contain estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, or any other hormone or hormone-like compound. It works entirely through vascular mechanisms, not endocrine ones. This is an important distinction because it means the cream addresses a different dimension of sexual function than hormone therapy does and the two can work together in a complementary way.
Hormone therapy, including estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone, works over time to restore the hormonal environment that supports healthy tissue, libido, lubrication, and overall sexual responsiveness. The arousal cream, by contrast, acts locally and in the moment of use by enhancing blood flow and sensation in genital tissue regardless of hormone levels. For women whose hormonal therapy has addressed tissue health and desire but who still experience difficulty with arousal or sensation during intimacy, the arousal cream can provide an additional layer of support. For women in the earlier stages of hormonal therapy while their body is still responding to treatment, the cream can bridge the gap in the meantime. The two approaches do not interfere with each other and are often prescribed together at Inflexxion Health as part of a comprehensive approach to sexual health and wellbeing.
Using the metered bottle, twist or click the bottom of the bottle to produce the correct dose and then apply a thin layer of cream to the clitoral and vulvar area as directed by your prescriber, typically before sexual activity. Use only on intact skin and avoid application to broken or irritated tissue. Keep the cream away from your eyes and mouth, and wash your hands thoroughly after application to avoid transferring the cream to unintended areas.
There are a few important safety considerations. Do not use this cream if you are currently taking oral PDE-5 inhibitors (such as sildenafil or tadalafil) or any form of nitrate medication (such as nitroglycerin) as combining these with even topical sildenafil carries a risk of significant blood pressure drop. Women taking antihypertensive medications should also discuss use with their clinician, as there is a small additive risk of hypotension. If you experience dizziness, flushing, chest pain, or significant drop in blood pressure after use, discontinue and contact your care team. Store the cream at room temperature, away from heat, light, and moisture, and keep it out of reach of children.
Most side effects are local and mild. A sensation of warmth, tingling, or redness at the application site is common and is actually consistent with the cream working as intended as these sensations reflect the increased blood flow the formulation is designed to produce. Some women may experience mild burning or temporary swelling, which typically resolves quickly.
Systemic side effects are rare with topical application at prescribed amounts but are possible, particularly if the cream is used frequently or on larger areas than directed. These can include headache, facial flushing, dizziness, or a noticeable drop in blood pressure If you experience any of these systemically, reduce the amount used and discuss with your clinician.
