Estradiol
Estradiol is the dominant form of estrogen and is the most biologically active. It is the primary estrogen produced by the ovaries during a woman’s reproductive years, and it declines most significantly during menopause. Most of the symptoms associated with menopause are directly associated with declining estradiol levels.
Estradiol is the form of estrogen most commonly used in hormone therapy. It can be found as a patch, gel, spray, pill, or vaginal preparation. Because it is bioidentical (meaning it is chemically identical to what your body produces), it is often the preferred treatment for menopause. FDA-approved estradiol products have been extensively studied for safety and effectiveness.
