HSDD
HSDD is an acronym for hypoactive sexual desire disorder. It is a medical diagnosis given to women who experience recurring low sexual drive that results in considerable distress. The key word is distress: not every woman with low libido has HSDD. The diagnosis applies when the lack of desire is troubling you, affecting your relationships, or diminishing your quality of life.
HSDD is more common than most people realize, as it affects roughly one in ten women. It has genuine biological causes, including hormonal changes during menopause, and is not simply a matter of being "in your head." It can be treated with hormone therapy, medications specifically approved for HSDD, and other evidence-based approaches. If your provider has dismissed your concerns about low desire, it may be worth addressing with a specialist.
